True HR Cannot be Outsourced

Last Thursday, the Chamber Labor Climate Network (CLCN) hosted a workshop, “New Ideas and New Technologies: Improve HR Costs and Efficiency”. The meeting offered a panel of HR professionals and industry experts, including Monica Brown, Roper St. Francis Healthcare and Priscilla Roper, Charleston Marine Containers, Inc. Attendees were provided with the resources and help needed to become a high performance organization amidst our current economic climate.

The panel was asked to discuss their most significant business challenges related to HR in recent months, how they were able to build strategies to address these challenges, and what improvements were made, how were they implemented and what impact these improvements had on their organization. Panelist Scott Cave, KFR Services Inc. discussed the challenge of creating workplace flexibility. By offering flexible work schedules, telecommuting opportunities and child care support, Cave acknowledged how these practices helped cut costs and produce zero percent turnover with his company.

Judith Moore, Charleston Cookie Company discussed how to manage both growth and the economic situation. According to Moore, there is traumatic change for a lot of businesses with the economy; forced to streamline in all departments; including cutting back on staff dramatically. Horne/Guest Insurance Agency panelist, Mark Combs followed by discussing how “true HR cannot be outsourced.” He explained how “it can’t be outsourced (or automated for that manner) because it is a true business skill – very right brain and creative.”
