Senate GOP Joins DeMint to Challenge Administration on Honduras

081106_demint_thrushThis morning Sen. DeMint questioned the position of the Obama Administration on Honduras during a Foreign Relations Committee hearing with President Obama’s nominee for Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Arturo Valenzuela. Over the past two days several GOP senators have joined DeMint to speak out in support of the Honduran people’s plight to preserve their democracy. Along with DeMint, Senators Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) have voiced support for the rule of law on the floor of the Senate. Today, DeMint, Martinez and Coburn were joined by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) at a press conference where they urged the administration to reconsider its current stance, which was made in haste before all the facts were in.

Now 16 senators have joined DeMint in sending a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asking her and President Obama to reassess their stance on the situation in Honduras and urging them to meet with democratically elected members of Honduran Congress currently visiting the United States.

This was not a coup, it was the constitutional removal of a would-be Chavez-style dictator and Obama has once again sided against American interests and against people standing for freedom and democracy.

  1. Dear Senators: Thank you for standing onthe right side of justice. This is not a matter of a president being ousted in his pijamas. This is a matter of a president doing ilegal things like disobeying supreme court rulings, personally leading a mob into stealing judiciary confiscated matterials, subverting rule of law and twisting the Honduras constitution to its breaking point until he was to get his wishes, which were to stay in power indefinitely. We all know this is a model exported from Venezuela. Evo has followed. Correa has followed. Ortega has just subverted his own constitution – Zelaya style. What side are we on for heaven´s sake? How many Latin American countries have to fall to comunism until president Obama opens his eyes to what is truly going on? Zelaya is not a poster boy for democracy! Quite contrary, he is a poster boy for would be dictators. A few months ago he used to Yell ¨Gringos-Go-Home / Iran-come-do-shady-business-with-me¨ along with Chavez and Castro. Now he´s getting support from the USa to come back and do it all over again? Can someone tell me this is not a Twilight-Zone story ? The USA actually promoting dictators and subverting free elections! USA SUBVERTING FREE ELECTIONS FOR HEAVENS SAKE !?! please TELL ME ITS JUST A BAD JOKE …. Ashton Kutchner, we know you are in the state department, quit PUNKIN Honduras for heavens sake! We get it! We are being PUNKED! Aren´t we ? ……. JorgeFromHonduras.
