ACC/SEC TOP 20 WEEK 10

secdebate31. Florida (8-0)

Rumor has it that Tebow and Brandon Spikes had a very inspirational team meeting this past week.  That translated to a dominant performance in Jacksonville.  The Gators showed, for the first time in a long time, why they are still the team to beat in the NCAA.

2. Alabama (8-0)

The Tide has been struggling as of late. Thankfully for them, they got a much needed week off  before the SEC west showdown with LSU.  This will be by far their biggest test of the season  and when the dust is settled we will have a clear view of who or what this Alabama squad is.

3. LSU (7-1)

The Tigers were impressive offensively for a second straight week.  This will be their second and last chance to throw their name in the National Championship race.  Don’t expect LSU to back down.

4. Georgia Tech (8-1)

The Ramblin’ Wreck are clearly beginning to separate themselves from the pack in the ACC.  The amount of offensive weapons they have is staggering and the option appears virtually unstoppable.  This is a team that is being completely overlooked and I think they prefer it that way.

5. Clemson (5-3)

Clemson shoots up my list this week because I truly believe they run the table in the ACC.  The Tigers are an ACC team with SEC athletes that bodes well for them down the stretch.

6. Miami (6-2)

The Hurricanes squeaked out a victory against a floundering Wake Forest.  But they are young and they will have those kinds of games where you just scratch your head and wonder.  As long as they keep winning the “U” will stay near the top of my pole.

7. Tennessee (4-4)

They embarrassed a solid South Carolina squad, and the progress and attitude adjustment of this program under Lane Kiffin is both surprising and remarkable.  Im sure Florida and Alabama wouldn’t want to play the Vols a second time.

8. Virginia Tech (5-3)

I truly thought this was the best team in the ACC.  I was proven wrong.  They have a few really good players and Beamer is undeniably great but they just don’t have as many athletes as the rest of the upper echelon teams in the country.

9. Auburn (6-3)

The Jekyll and Hyde of the SEC.  The Tigers looked great last week and they are a program that tends to overachieve.  They still have a couple of tests down the stretch and this is a team that still could be proven a fraud.

10. South Carolina (6-3)

Gamecock fans must be thinking “Here we go again”.  Was this the beginning of another demoralizing late season slide?  Many signs point to yes.  Spurrier can’t afford to lose the last three and this weeks Arkansas game is the most winnable game left on the schedule.  The time is now to quell the tide for Gamecock Nation.

11. Georgia (4-4)

The Bulldogs showed some guts in the first quarter and a half by fighting back from an early deficit to the Gators.  But they just don’t have enough playmakers and they don’t look like the most well coached team in the country.  Could Mark Richt’s job already be in jeopardy?  The upcoming games against Auburn and Georgia Tech should answer that question.

12. Boston College (6-3)

Im not sure what to make of this Golden Eagles squad.  They haven’t looked overly impressive in any game they i’ve watched and they don’t have any stars, but they keep winning.  They are currently atop the ACC Atlantic but questions still remain as to how long they can stay there.

13. Arkansas (4-4)

The Razorbacks have the perfect opportunity at home against a struggling South Carolina team to turn their season in the right direction and maybe win 6 or 7 games.  Arkansas signal caller Ryan Mallett is bordering on superstardom and he needs to break through this week.

14. Ole Miss (5-3)

I admit I fell for the Reb’s media hype and they proved they are just an average football team by laying a rotten egg down the stretch against Auburn.  They will get bowl eligible this week against Northern Arizona but the matchup against their in-state rival no longer looks like a sure thing and they could potentially lose their last three games.

15. North Carolina (5-3)

I cannot figure out this Tar Heels team.  They lose every game I think they are going to win and win every game I think they are going to lose.  I think that makes them average but with a side order of good.  Basically when they win I will move them up a little and when they lose i will move them down a little.

16. Florida State (4-4)

The Seminoles had to win this past week and they did.  They need to keep winning to make a bowl because their annual rout at the hands of the gators looms large at the end of the season.  The real question is…. Is a desperate FSU a better FSU or a worse FSU?

17. Kentucky (4-4)

This program took a real step back by loosing to Mississippi State.  Luckily for the Wildcats, they have games against Eastern Kentucky and Vandy to right the ship.

18. Duke (5-3)

The Blue Devils keep winning….. The ACC should be embarrassed.

19. Mississippi State (4-5)

It was a great win this past weekend for Dan Mullen and Company.  The road doesn’t get easy down the stretch for the Bulldogs, but this whole season has been one long moral victory for a formerly struggling program that is turning the corner in the SEC.

20. Wake Forest (4-5)

Luckily for Wake their are three terrible teams in their conference.  Grobe and the Deacons are going to have to scratch and claw to get bowl eligible. They have proven in the past that they are gutsy, but do they have anything left in them?

So, does this blog get discredited if the author doesn’t know what teams are in what divisions in the ACC? Boston College is in the Coastal, not Atlantic.

  2. admin

    BC is in the atlantic

  3. Brian

Kevin, no but you get discredited because BC is in the Atlantic division and have been since joining the ACC.

  4. David

BC is in the Atlantic..you have officially lost all credibility at college football knowledge you have ever attained in your entire life

Even worse, since my name is also Kevin, my college football acumen will forever be challenged just by association. Such shame – with little chance at redemption. Pitiful…
