Jenny Sanford Agreed to Hide Affair, But Governor Mark Sanford Said ‘No’

In a startling revelation, Jenny Sanford writes that her estranged husband South Carolina Gov. Mark Sandford refused to end an affair with his Argentine lover, even after she had her attorney draw up a contract that she would not reveal the affair if he would stop seeing the woman.
In addition, she writes that the governor came to to his wife for advice on how to handle the fallout after the public announcement of the affair.
Sanford’s memoir of how her experience of learning of the affair, how she handled it, and their life together the last few decades will be available to the public when her book “Staying True” is released Friday.
Gov. Mark Sanford admitted to a yearlong extramarital affair in June after returning from a secret trip to Argentina to visit his mistress. He told his staff to tell the public he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Jenny Sanford, a Georgetown-educated former Wall Street investment banker, moved out of the Governor’s Mansion last summer and now lives with the couple’s four sons at the family beach house on Sullivans Island.
The Sanfords are scheduled to have a final hearing in their divorce later this month.
