Men’s Tennis’ Funkhouser Named Big South Player of the Week

Junior Alex Funkhouser was selected as Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Funkhouser led the Chanticleers with four wins in singles and doubles

Men’s tennis junior Alex Funkhouser has been selected as the Big South Choice Hotels Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.

Funkhouser led the way for the Chanticleers this past week as he picked up four victories in singles and doubles play. Against Mercer, Funkhouser supplied the game winning point in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-4 over Victor Dias. He also paired up with Ernesto Ramos in No. 2 doubles to win 8-5. In the win over Wofford, Funkhouser defeated Alan Donald, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 position of singles, and at the No. 2 doubles spot, Funkhouser and Ramos won the match 8-3. Coastal handed Mercer its first loss of the season and snapped Wofford’s 14-match home win streak this past week. The Winchester, Va. native has started the season with 5-0 record in singles and is on a four-match win streak in doubles.

Coastal will travel to Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m., then open Big South play at Gardner-Webb, Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
