Winthrop going to NCAA tournament; upsets Coastal Carolina in Conway, SC
Coastal Carolina had everything in their favor. They were strong in the Big South Conference all year. They lost only one game all season. Finished the regular http://news.sc/wp-admin/post-new.phpseason in the number one spot and had the Big South Championship at home in their building. None of that mattered as Winthrop came to town and beat Coastal Carolina 62-51 in Conway, SC.
Winthrop controlled the pace for most of the game. Their defense completed the task of keeping the score low successfully. Winthrop was the number three seed in the tournament while Coastal was the number one seed and lost only one game all year, until they entered the one game that really mattered.
But despite Coastal Carolina’s dominance throughout the year, the numbers were skewed in favor of Winthrop. They are 10-1 in the Big South Championship. They’ve been to the NCAA tournament nine times. It was a Cinderella story for Coastal, though. They were picked to be number eight in the Big South Conference. They were number one, but they just couldn’t finish.
Winthrop will be a 15 or 16 seed in the NCAA tournament.

dude, come on. a little fact checking would be nice.
Coastal had lost 5 games before the Big South Championship, including a regular season loss to Winthrop. The loss in the championship makes it 6.
The score to the championship game was 64-53, not 62-51.
